Description
Available only from Hammacher Schlemmer, this is the model kit that re-creates the heaviest fighter of the Unites States Army Air Forces during WWII. Known to the enemy as “the fork-tailed devil,” the P-38L first saw service in the Normandy Invasion, during which its twin Allison engine design was hailed for providing the power essential for ground support. All of the plane’s features are reproduced in precise detail with the kit’s 362 pieces, including rubber tires, metal ailerons and flap shaft, engine intake netting, photo-etched control surface hinges, and more. The instruction manual is accompanied by an 80-page book illustrated with 175 period photographs—one third of which are rare color originals—and detailed line drawings. Forms a 19"-wingspan.
